I’ve been meaning to add some maps to my portfolio for a while now, so thought I’d start with one of the village where I grew up. I’ve also included some images of my process. I started with a very simple sketch that I drew on the DLR.  When I got home I sketched out a few more elements that I planned to include in my map. I then scanned this image in and build up the basic forms in Illustrator. blocking out the sections where I expected the text to lie. Once I’d played around a bit with the composition I added the text and finally moved the finished image across to Photoshop to add the textures.

I’m pretty sure its scientifically proven that looking at jellyfish while listening to music make you 34% happier.

I was asked by YCN to illustrate an article by Neil Christie from Wieden & Kennedy’s. The piece discusses whether the UK billings league table is an accurate indicator of agency performance. You can see the full article along with my illustration on the YCN site HERE. I found it pretty tough to illlustrate at first, trying to find a successful way of combining the ideas of the unreliable, outdated and inaccurate with symbols of data collation. In the end though Im really pleased with the way the final image worked out.

The illustration was to be displayed once a competition stopped accepting entries, and needed to depict a deadline being reached.
