I was recently commissioned by Scriberia to design a title banner for The Guardian & Observer’s intranet site. Above is the banner design and a few close up crops of the illustration.

It incorporates lots of different Guardian references past and present. Their Manchester roots and founder C.P.Scott are referenced as well as it’s King’s Cross offices, New York and Australian locations and printed and digital products.

Last month I was contacted by the the lovely people at The Bark Magazine who had seen my Darwin illustration and thought it would work well to accompany an article in their upcoming issue. The Article was written from the perspective of Charles Darwin’s dog - a fox terrier called Polly! I amended my original Darwin illustration to incorporate his Canine friend, which I think was probably the first time I’ve illustrated a dog!

Here’s a recent video I made with Damnfine Media for Reuters. I created the assets for the film and did the live drawing. The film is about the problems Europe is facing supporting it’s ageing population - you can watch it on the Reuters TV site here.

I’ve recently been working with The Graphical Tree to produce 5 London maps to display in their windows and covering a wall. The maps are now up in their offices (just off Great Portland Street) and although I haven’t had a chance to pop down there yet, thanks to their twitter pics, I’m pretty pleased with how they look!

The maps are of the 5 London Borough’s closest to The Graphical Tree. I chose the locations based on a few of my favorite icon buildings and places to visit in London, with a generous scattering of cafes and pubs to keep you hydrated!

I’ll pop a few bigger versions of the maps up on my Pinterest and website soon, as these are pretty small and hard to read!

Portrait a week - Rebecca Adlington

I’ve tried to be a bit more adventurous this week in developing my new portrait style and have been using colour. I’m pretty please with the result and will probably try and experiment with my colour palette a bit more next week.

I’ve drawn Rebecca Adlington as she’s announced her retirement from swimming - she is the most successful british swimmer of modern times.

I also chose her because I was getting bored of drawing male politicians in suits, but in hindsight maybe water was a bit ambitious…

Portrait a week - Benjamin Netanyahu

Here’s this week’s portrait from my new side project to develop my painting style.

Benjamin Netanyahu has been in the news a lot recently due to him being re-elected as the Israeli prime minister last week - then again this week after a cartoon of him caused controversy when it was printed in the Sunday Times.

I’m enjoying this painting malarky, this illustration was done using pencil and ink with a bit photoshop tweaking afterwards. I need to be a bit more adventurous next week though I reckon.

Aesop Fable - Two Travellers and the Bear

Over the last couple of months I have been working on illustrating Aesop’s Fables. And here is the first, based in the story of two friend traveling together and what happens when they are confronted by a bear!

I really like Aesop’s fabels - considering that they are thought be to nearly 2000 years old its amazing how timeless they are.

Anyway I hope you like my interpretation. You can see a few crops from the picture below and I also have this illustration available on my shop as a Giclee Print HERE

I’ve decided to try my hand at portrait painting again. My plan for 2013 is to try and develop this style to put together a new painterly portfolio by doing a portrait a week from a recent news story.

I’ve been working on some patterns recently and will be sending off my designs to be printed onto fabric at the end of this week. This chairlift pattern comes in Grey, Mustard and Green. If you’re interested in getting your hands on some send me an email at kerryhyndman@hotmail.com and I’ll add your fabric to my order. I’ll place the order on Friday 25th Jan so let me know before then if you would like some.

The fabric is £40 per Yard and can be used for upholstry, cushions and tea towels.
